The 21,337-square-foot store opens Friday with a covered 2,500-square-foot outdoor patio. Inside, there's a bistro area where customers can have a complimentary glass of wine, an espresso or a snack.
One other Frontgate store, which is in Atlanta, is in the process of moving to a new store in late September to duplicate more of the Plano store's format, Thompson said.
Frontgate also has a handful of outlet stores, but it's still very much a catalog company.
It was founded in Cincinnati in 1991 and that first year sent out 300,000 catalogs. Today, it sends monthly catalogs to 10 million affluent households, and its website has 25 million visitors a year. It's been owned by HSN since 2005, when HSN bought Cornerstone Brands, a collection of upscale catalogs that also included Ballard Designs and Garnet Hill. HSN and QVC, the two biggest TV shopping networks, said earlier this month that they've agreed to merge.
